Dimensional letters fabrication: studio prep
We are at the studio. We are hanging about, flipping switches, clicking mouse buttons. The laser cutter is possessed. This is not some old arcade game. But finally it is slicing paper, it is making pounce patterns. It is taking forever, but it is getting through the plexiglass dimensional letters. This was a rush job for BetterUp, with me, Christopher, and Cameron turning up the dial. The letters need to be in a flat finish. We have custom spacers, but let just say not all beards will survive this one. The polished lobby-sign result and the feral studio account remain side by side in the project story.

Day one: dimensional letters fabrication and custom finishes
Day one, there is chaos in the workshop. We are producing these letters ourselves. We are cutting the acrylic and other materials, but we are stepping on tails, we are fudging alignments, and we are hitting the spray booth for custom colors. During one tragic moment Christopher yells safety third as Cameron has oversprayed in the spray booth, turning us into a seventies disco fog machine. We emerge coughing like we were hotboxed by Doctor Dre himself. The account returns to the project requirement: custom-color, flat-finish dimensional letters for BetterUp.
Day two: layout and test fitting
Day two. More studio shenanigans. We are wrapping up production on these custom signs and testing the puzzle pieces. They fit. Cameron accidentally dropped one. It slid underneath the couch. He is chasing it like a greased pig. Meanwhile Christopher has glued all his fingers together. He is permanently waving now. This three-day chronology documents this specific job—it is not a turnaround promise for a current request.
Day three: historical lobby sign installation in downtown San Francisco
Day three. We start downtown San Francisco invasion. We are hauling gear through the city streets. There is sludge in the gutters, there is steam pouring up through our tools. Finally we are stuffed into a corporate elevator with all the suits, think London accents debating Mumbai mergers. Power execs are side eyeing our dusty asses. Christopher leans over and whispers with a fake British accent to blend in. We drill into the walls, we are dodging conference calls. Everything is looking great. Letters are sliding in like a glove, and the lobby installation comes together on the red wall.
Final touches: leveling, securing, and the escape plan
Time for the final touches and for us to plan our escape. We have been leveling, securing, but mainly admiring. Cameron has been stuck in the bathroom for thirty minutes. The security guard is trying to get him out. Christopher is polishing letters with his glued hands. I do not think it is working very well. The surviving photos show the finished white letters, their flat finish, and their placement on the red lobby wall.
